From the recording Living in the Corporate U.S.A.
I had this really fun spy-tune going and just needed a topic; what better modern day spy story than Edward Snowden. Branded a traitor by the establishment, the only people he betrayed was the NSA who was spying on all of our phone calls and emails. He tried numerous times to follow chain of command and was told to ignore it; forget about it. At that time, whistleblower protection did not apply to government contrators. With all internal channels blocked, he went to the press to let America know that OUR security agency was spying on us. Edward Snowden is an American hero.
Lyrics
Starting right after 911
The NSA built a smoking gun
Spying on American’s phones and mail
Cyberterrorists of the grandest scale
Problem is that privacy
Is a Fourth amendment right, you see
But the NSA took that right way
Didn’t say a thing, just a game they play
Public Enemy Number One
Snowden found that Smoking Gun
Got the NSA on the run
He’s the Ellsberg of his generation Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Edward Snowden was a super Geek
Cyberstrategist, counterintelligence
Five years with the NSA
Before he made that leak, and in his defense
He told co-workers and superiors
But was shoed away, told not to talk that way
No whistleblower immunity
So he went to the press to let the nation see
Two billion emails every day
Are captured by the NSA
They want to database every call
That is ever made, in the USA
Ed broke the rules but felt he had no choice
Wanted citizens to have a voice
And freedom from conspiracy
And the piracy of our privacy
