From the recording Living in the Corporate U.S.A.
"Let's take our U.S.A. back" is the driving theme of this anthem for the other 99% that is just trying to get by while the rich get richer. I love how this tune starts with classic Mamas & the Papas style harmonies then builds to a powerful conclusion. If any tune on this album screams for a video it's this one. (Special thanks to Stacia and Ceilidh for the harmonies and backup vocals!)
Lyrics
Born in the USA used to have special meaning
Privilege would come in the land of opportunity
But half of the USA lives in some sort of poverty
Money and power lead to inequality
Let’s take our USA back, all you 99 percenters
Let’s take our USA back, this may be our last chance to get this right
Let’s get our USA back from the rich and the greedy
They own the media, every word that you read and you hear
Lobbyists pay for our laws, helps to keep them in business
Politicians don’t mind, they can always use ex-tra cash
There’s no social mobility
Just economic royalty
And police are just working for the prison industry
A few hundred rich control more than 300 million
They use lies and deceit to further their profits and plans
Wall Street and Big Banks keep all of the wealth for the wealthy
Hide behind religion with the tea party and the Koch brand
Let’s take our USA back from the one percenters
Raping our landscape and taking away informed consent
All of those rich corporations stand above prosecution
Rather than put them in jail we’ll just bail them out
Let’s take our USA back, from the one percenters
Let’s take our USA back, all you need to do is have something to say
Let’s take our USA back, take back the laws and the media
Let’s take our USA back, this may be our very last chance to get this thing right
All you 99 percenters
Let’s take our USA back
