After wrapping up most of the album, I wanted to dive into the reality that song-writing IS HARD! I'd written quite a few, but how do you write that one really "GOOD" song, one that people will remember? I wanted to make this a BIG number to wrap up the album; the genre I call "camp pop revival." (Thanks to Erik Holsinger for providing ample keys and synth-horns and Ceilidh for the poppy BGVs at the end)

Lyrics

Wish I could write a good song
Not just any old song
Not too sad or lonely
Not too short or too long
Something to please everybody
Help the world get along
Wish I could write a good song
And hope you all sing along

Wanna write lyrics like Dylan
Licks like Richards & Page
Build mixes like Alan Parsons
With passion like Kurt Cobain
Wish I could write a good song
One the world could rejoice
But I don’t know what I’m doing
‘Cause I have no inner voice (whatever that is)

I keep repeating the same words
Up all night lost in my mind
Got Silly Putty for brains now
‘Cause I Can’t make it work,
But I can’t go to bed …

I keep repeating the same chords
It’s making me lose my mind
Up all night banging my head
I Can’t make it work, I can’t go to bed
because I…

Just wanna write a good song
I’m sure it can’t be that hard
It’s not for lack of trying
But it’s leaving me scarred
I’ve got no style, no genre
I’ve got no theory, no school
Try lyrics first, that never works
This songwriting thing is hard-to-do

Wish I could write a good song
Not just any old song
With lyrics pure and thoughtful
And I’d make everything rhyme
Something with beat but soulful
I think this could be the one
Wish I could write a good song
Now everyone sing along
This is hard
