From the recording Mid-Life Angst
What is there to say about this song that's not implied by the title "(I'm) Not an ATM"? If you have kids, you've been there; it's every dad's lament: "Dad, I want..." and "Dad, can I get..." This tune is a funny and upbeat dub/ska response to these endless requests. (Thanks to the kids for their vocal sample perfection...of course, they've had a lot of practice)
Lyrics
They want coffee every morning and a pastry goes with it
And some ice cream in the daytime, it’s so hot they have to have it
They want movies with their BFFs, and shopping at the mall
Or some candy just because, give me a break they want it all
Your dad is not an ATM, I’m not an ATM
Independently wealthy, is what I should have been
Should it come as such a big surprise,
I’m just money in my children’s eyes
I’m not an ATM
Her friend has this new thing so she must have this thing her friend has
Or a cute dress at Hot Topic only costs one hundred dollars
Shopping for the spring and summer, shopping for the fall
Iphone, ipod, or X-box just admit you want it all
When I was broke at age 16, I got a job to buy these things
It wasn’t much but it got me by, and kept me off the streets
Kids today just want to play, and think it’s up to me to pay
So what I say… I’m not an ATM
Your dad is not an ATM, I’m not an ATM
Independently wealthy, is what I should have been
Should it come as such a big surprise,
I’m just money in my children’s eyes
I’m not an ATM
