From the recording Mid-Life Angst
Doesn't it seem like when you're in a hurry you always get stuck behind a slow-moving truck? This was originally inspired by driving Reilly to and from school along a two-lane highway where there always seems to be a truck, tractor or school bus gumming up the works. I started scribbling the lyrics on scraps of paper and packaging while boxed between trucks on I-5 driving home from Long Beach. I call this genre Bluegrass Americana for lack of a better term and it has a nice little slide hook on my custom Dean Resonator.
Lyrics
Driving up I5, L.A. to northbay
Well, just my luck...
There’s always a truck, always a truck
Spewing plumes of diesel fumes
There’s always a truck, always a truck
What is that liquid, pouring out of your bed?
All over my windshield, smells like its dead
There’s always a truck, always a truck
What is that smell? Am I in hell?
There’s always a truck, always a truck
Wide load, wide load(won’t you)
Step on the gas
Wide load, wide load(won’t you)
Pull over and let me pass
Driving down 116 to pick up my teen
Damn trucks are killing me
Always a truck, or worse a tractor, or a school bus
Whatever they do to slow down you
There’s always a truck, always a truck
